MPPSC MAINS PAPER 1 PART 2 GEOGRAPHY (20 words)
Short notes 20 words
Horse Latitude :
*Between 30 to 35 degree latitudes in both hemisphere
*Subtropical high pressure belts.
*Seperates between 2 winds system, trade winds & westerlies
*known as horse latitude because of the fact that in ancient times had sailed through the calm conditions of this latitude.
Doldrums:
A belt of low pressure, popularly known as equatorial trough of low pressure,
extends along the equator within a zone of "5 degree north to 5 degree south" latitude.
This is the belt of doldrums because of light and variable winds and is subjected to variable & spatial variations due to northward and southward movement of overhead sun.
Isobars :
The pressure of air is shown on weather maps by means of lines known as isobars(means equal weight).
It is an imaginary line, drawn on the map joining all places with equal atmospheric pressure.
Tornado :
It is an internse ,destructive cyclonic rotation, developed in response to extremly low pressure, associated with mesocyclonic formation, it often occurs with thunderstorms. it can range from few meters to few 100 meters & can last from few moments to tens of minutes.
Fohn :
It is a warm, dry and local winds.
Location- Northern alps. switzerland (spring)
Chinook:
It is a warm, dry & local winds
Location:- eastern slopes in rockies in USA and Canada in winters.
It causes Avlanches.
Convectional Rainfall :
Occur due to thermal convention currents caused due to insolational heating of ground surface.
Occurs daily in the afternoon in the equatorial region.
They make cumulonimbus clouds.
It is for very short duration but occurs in the form of heavy showers.
Blizzard:
It is a violent stormy cold & powdery polar winds laden with dry snow & is prevalent in North & South Polar Regions,Siberia,Canada & The USA.
